A hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbriocota) is brought to the surface of the Atlantic Ocean by Larry Wood, marine curator for the Marinelife Center of Juno Beach (hidden behind the turtle) and assistant Sarah Hopler, a junior at Lehigh University of Bethlehem, PA. Wood is studying hawksbill turtles to find out where they are coming from in the Carribean. HHe captures the turtles by hand on the reef and brings them to the surface to tag the turtles front flippers, take blood samples and measurements before returning the turtle to the ocean. Hopler is an intern working with Wood. Her job is to control the ascent since Wood has the turtle in a firm grip. © 2005 John J. Lopinot.
