Usambara two-horned chameleon (Kinyongia matschiei) - Also known as Matschie’s two-horned chameleon, to distinguish it from the other species of two-horned chameleon that also lives in the East Usambara Mountains. For decades these two species were considered to be the same species, despite size and color differences, until recent molecular evidence established them as independent species. Matschie’s chameleon tends to live along forest edges and in shamba, but it is collected for the pet trade and lives only in the East Usambara Mountains, making it vulnerable to over-collection. The results of my surveys in Amani Nature Reserve suggest that K. matschiei is not very abundant.
